Background
Alissa Samek joined the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management in February 2024 as an academic advisor with the Office of Student Services.
Prior to joining HRSM, Samek worked as a high school counselor in Kansas City, Mo., and later in Liberty, Mo. During this time, she assisted students with a wide range of tasks, including applying for highly selective institutions, collaborating with stakeholders to support academic achievement and meeting other various needs of students.
In 2019, Samek and her school counseling team were awarded the Secondary Counseling Team of the Year award for their efforts in improving graduation rates.
Raised near Ames, Iowa, before later moving to Kansas City, Samek is a graduate of William Penn University where she earned a bachelor's in general psychology. She went on to receive her Master of Education and Counseling from Stephens College in Columbia, Mo.
