Nathan Rouse

Background

Nathan Rouse is an Assistant Professor of Law at the University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law. His scholarship focuses on the American criminal legal system, and particularly the intersection of the criminal law and technology. He teaches a variety of classes relating to the criminal law and directs the Criminal Practice Clinic.

His most recent article, Witness-washing Facial Recognition Technology, appeared in the Denver Law Review. His work currently focuses on specific carceral technologies, including facial recognition and restraint chairs. Before joining the University of South Carolina faculty, Professor Rouse was an Acting Assistant Professor at the New York University School of Law. Prior to that he was a public defender. 

Professor Rouse was born and raised in South Carolina. He holds a BARSC from the University of South Carolina and a J.D. from New York University School of Law.
