Joseph F. Rice School of Law

Maddy Taylor

Why did you choose USC Rice School of Law?

I chose USC Rice School of Law because Columbia became my home after completing my undergraduate education here. During my time in Columbia, I discovered the many professional, academic, and community opportunities its location provides and wanted to continue my education in that setting.

What advice would you give a first-year law student?

Law school is truly what you make of it! Put yourself out there, try new things, build meaningful connections, and embrace uncertainty. There are countless opportunities available, and sometimes all it takes is pulling up your own chair to the table.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

One of my proudest accomplishments in law school has been serving as President and 1L Representative of the First-Generation Law Student Association. As a first-generation undergraduate and law school student myself, it has been incredibly rewarding listening to and sharing these unique experiences with others. I look forward to continuing to do so as a student ambassador!
