Why did you choose USC Rice School of Law?
As a proud alumni of the University of South Carolina Honors College, I have a special connection to the city of Columbia and USC as a whole. I’m originally from Pennsylvania, so moving over 500 miles away from home was extremely intimidating and nerve-wracking. I have never felt anything but welcomed at USC and am proud to call Columbia a second home. When it was time to make a decision surrounding law school, for me it was a no brainer to stay at the University that has already given me so much.
What advice would you give a first-year law student?
Networking and building professional relationships is just as important as your performance in the classroom. Take advantage of the Law School's social and networking events as they're a great way to meet attorneys, expand your professional network, and gain insight into the realities of the legal profession. I also highly recommend attending the programs and events hosted by Career and Professional Development. These sessions are incredibly valuable for preparing you for the job search process and provide another excellent opportunity to connect with attorneys, alumni, and fellow students. Be sure to get to know the advisors in Career and Professional Development. They are always eager to answer questions, provide guidance, and support you throughout law school and your career search. Finally, invest time in building relationships within the law school community. Get to know the people in your section, your peer mentor group, and upper-class students. They can be invaluable sources of advice and support. Don't forget to connect with your professors and the law school's faculty and staff as well. The relationships you build during law school can become some of your most valuable personal and professional resources long after graduation.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Writing on to the ABA Real Property, Trust and Estate Law Journal! The journal focuses on areas of law that I am especially excited to learn more about and hope to build my career in after law school. It is an incredible opportunity to deepen my knowledge, strengthen my legal research and writing skills, and contribute to scholarship in a field I am passionate about.
