Joseph F. Rice School of Law

Raegan Meyer

Why did you choose USC Rice School of Law?

South Carolina Rice School of Law set such a high standard while I was in my law school decision process, because everyone I interacted with-- Admissions, faculty, students-- was so genuine and made me feel valued immediately. It was the first school I toured, so I assumed every law school was like this, but that is far from the truth. I could tell immediately that everyone here is genuinely invested in my success, and, of course, the building is beautiful.

What advice would you give a first-year law student?

My biggest piece of advice is be nice to everyone. My second piece, though, is be prepared to adjust based on what you need to do to succeed. You are going to have to try harder than you did in undergrad, so try out new techniques to study and stay organized. And do not get caught up in comparing yourself to others. Even though it is hard to avoid sometimes, you will succeed here when you focus on doing what you need to do.

What would your advice be to current students?

Keep it up! And try the cookies from the Counselor's Cafe.

What surprised you the most about law school?

The amount of networking events was very shocking to me. This is a very social profession.
