Bio
Eric’s design and production work comprises consulting, trade shows, contemporary dance, ballet, opera, regional theatre, Off-Broadway and Broadway. His resident and guest design work includes Ann Brodie’s Carolina Ballet, Lexington Center Corporation, Baltimore’s Theatre Project, Maryland Arts Festival, AshLawn-Highland Opera Festival, Chicago Opera Theatre, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Lexington Ballet and Lexington Children’s Theatre. Design and production work has taken him to venues such as Centre College, DePaul University, Goodman Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Trinity Repertory, Alliance Theatre, Baltimore Center Stage, Great Lakes Theatre Festival, North Carolina Shakespeare Festival, and BACA Downtown, as well as Judith Anderson, Ethel Barrymore and Second Stage theatres, and the Charterhouse School in Godalming, Surrey, England. His teaching includes classes and workshops for universities and professional training programs such as Illinois Wesleyan University, University of Kentucky and The Hotchkiss School Summer Program. His consulting has served Fayette County Schools, Hazard Community College, The Thoroughbred Center, Lexington-Richland 5 School District and Columbia Music Festival Association. He is currently Senior Instructor Faculty with University of South Carolina, and the Production Designer for the Betsy Blackmon Dance Program at USC. Design at USC includes translating a volume of Balanchine Trust works, as well as works by The Antony Tudor Ballet Trust, The Robbins Rights Trust, Limon Dance Company, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Complexions Contemporary Ballet and Wideman Davis Dance. Eric has restaged lighting for works originally created by Twyla Tharpe, Lynn-Taylor Corbett, Lila York, Bill T. Jones, Arturo Fernandez, Chris Wheeldon, Kevin O’Day, Alan Hineline, William Forsythe, Nathan Trice, David Parsons, Alvin Nikolais, Helen Pickett, Justin Peck, Alexei Ratmansky, Janis Brenner, Christian von Howard, Colin Connor, and others. Eric’s writing life includes publication in the anthologies Marked by the Water, Sheltered, and Fall Lines Literary Magazine, where he received a Broad River Prize for Prose.Eric’s novel, Jacob Jump, with foreword by Pat Conroy, is published by Story River Books at USC Press.He’s a past recipient of a TCG/NEA Designer Fellowship, and is a lifetime member of ASCAP.
