Bio
McKenzie M. Lemhouse (she/they) is the instruction and outreach librarian at the University of South Carolina Lancaster. McKenzie holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Language from Winthrop University and a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of South Carolina. McKenzie has enjoyed a career in special collections and academic librarianship since 2016. Her research interests include whole-person librarianship, LGBTQIA+ issues, and online information behaviors. She has also served as a facilitator for University of South Carolina Safe Zone workshops since 2021.
McKenzie was the 2024 recipient of the South Carolina Library Association's New Librarian award, which recognizes librarians who have made significant contributions to the profession within the first five years of post-MLIS employment. She is the author of "Online Endometriosis Communities as Information Grounds" from Information, Power, and Reproductive Health (forthcoming from Library Juice Press). She is the co-author of "Your Most Powerful Instrument is Your Voice: Community Archives, Archival Silence, and the Girls Rock Columbia Community Archive" from Shelf Life: Libraries, Archives, and Collective Grief, (forthcoming from Bristol University Press), as well as "Adding Color to Our Shelves: Creating a Graphic Novel Collection at USC Lancaster" in Technical Services Quarterly (2023). She is a regular participant in state and regional professional organizations, with recent presentations at the annual conferences of the South Carolina Library Association, North Carolina Library Association, Southeastern Collaborative Conference, and American Library Association.
McKenzie strives to maintain a welcoming library environment for all members of the USC Lancaster and Palmetto College community. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to contact her with questions or suggestions or to visit Medford Library during her office hours.
