ITALIAN 122 is the follow up course to Italian 121. In this course you will be studying the language inside and outside of the classroom, with visit to sights and cultural activities to compliment the lectures, as well a trip to the medieval town of ASSISI. (3 CREDITS)

ITALIAN 398 will explore the history art, culture, cinema and culinary traditions of Italy and their development o throughout the centuries. The course is taught in English, and there is no language requirement. All majors are welcome to participate. The course will include  afternoon excursions and visits to famous sites and places of interests to compliment the lectures, as well a trip to the medieval town of ASSISI. (3 CREDITS)

ITALIAN 398 + MINI-INTERNSHIP is an option for students. They will have a chance to do 15 hour working experience (a list of choices will be provided) 4 CREDITS

Credit:  The undergraduate credits are granted by the University of South Carolina. These courses can be used towards major (e.g. International Business or Global Studies), minor and general requirements.

Faculty: Two faculty members from the University of South Carolina will teach the courses.  The Program will be hosted by the Umbra Institute in Perugia, and by the town of Casalanguida in Abruzzo.

INSTRUCTIONAL FORMAT: Each lecture will be complemented by cultural activities.

Requirements for Admission: There are no specific requirements for the 398 Culture Course nor for the Mini-Internship.

For Italian 122 – Students must have completed Italian 121.

  1. All students must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. Students must pay USC tuition for three credit hours.

    Sample activities: Etruscan/Roman Underground tour with Virtual experience/Pasta making class, Visit to Chocolate factory + tasting/Excursions to Mountains and Beaches of Abruzzo+ Lunch on the Water at the Adriatic Sea/Visit to the Etruscan well (3000 years old) Interaction with the Local Community in Abruzzo.
